The patriot act has been in effect for 5 years now. And ive never had one thing happen to me thats effected the way I live or imposed itself on me in any way.. Ive asked several people i know (friends, coworkers etc) that i talk politics with and theyve all said the same thing. That not one thing has happend to them to make them feel less free.

actually just thought of a friend of mine who's mother is Iranian. Hes got the look of middle eastren decent by he is american through and through. He travels by air alot and always gets pulled out of line and checked. He told me he jokes with the airport screners and says that the white powder in his shoes is not dangerous but for his stinky feet. Corse this really doesnt have anything to do with the Patriot act.

violates the 4th ammendment
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized
America is turning into a Police State

Yes it has directly affected me and I was more than a little upset! The government of our state thinks they can clean out my bank account with out any court order or any legal burden of proof what so ever and I was sick of it. We opened a new bank account and found we had no choice but to give them a good social security number due to a reference in the patriot act. What really gets me going is that the illegals have no problem opening an account with a Cracker Jack box ID.
The only thing the patriot act has done is seriously compromise our rights and cost billions in new bureaucracies.

The patriot act goes against the Constitution. With illegal search and seizures. I am librarian, and can have the FBI come in at any time and demand to see the protected records of any patron without reason or warrant, all they have to say is they have invoked the patriot act. This goes for any place in the United States, Doctors offices, schools, employers, etc They do not have to prove to any judge that it is a matter of National Security. It also provides the President with the power to deploy troops on Americans without a formal congressional approval, or a National emergency. It specifies he is able to deploy to maintain national stability. Who determines that stability, he does. We have been set up with the patriot act for a full fledge dictatorship by a President. We must be careful whom we put in office whether they be Republican or Democrat.

I guess I'd have to say how do you know? Under the Patriot Act, the government can listen to your phone calls, read your mail, find out what you've checked out from the library or bought from the bookstore, access your health records and employment records and never have to get a warrant. Anyone they ask for information is prohibited from telling you about it. So you have no way of knowing you're under suspicion or defending yourself until they come and take you away. At that point, they can lock you up indefinitely with no lawyer, no charges, no trial, and torture you until you confess to anything they want to make them stop. They could be monitoring us right now.
So if you want to know how it's affected me, I'd say this: They have stolen my country, defiled my Constitution, and made me ashamed to be an American. Is this really the America that you know and love?

Read the whole Patriot Act, then read the U.S. Constitution from front to back. If it abuses the Constitution in any way, it abuses the rights we were given when the Constitution was made, thus, it abuses us. Since the Constitution was made for the people and by the people, our rights should not be trampled on by trashing anything in the Constitution. The Patriot Act is wrong.

That is exactly why after all of the rhetorical attacks..it was soundly ratified..and reinstituted last year in Congress
Nothing but gibberish in their attempts..to submit something..
in a time of national crisis..if you don't co-operate..you become a part of the problem
liberal lawyers with terror list clients have had their
phones tapped..without fisa court okaying it..
whoopee..lawyers commit crimes every day and get away
with it..plotting and advising terror list suspects..crosses the line..where they become terrorists themselves..

I suppose you could argue that it violates the 4th Amendment, however during wartime (which if anyone hasn't noticed we currently are in that state) I am willing to forfeit my right to keep my non-criminal phone calls private, to protect my right to, you know, not get blown up by a religious fanatic.

Well, other than providing fodder for the left to cry foul, it hasn't affected me in anyway.

It has not impacted my life in one little bit. Nor has it directly affected ANYONE I know.
Even my very liberal mom has to admit that our freedoms are very much intact.
