I have just noticed this past week that my computer when idle is making random noises - sound effects - what is going on and how do I stop it? Virus scan has found nothing.

Odd.

I would first try re-installing the sound card drivers.

Have you installed anything new in the last week or so?

If all else fails, try a system restore to before when this problem started.

Is it doing this when your computer is sitting idle. It might be part of your screen protection software.
