I am 13 years old and want to be a sports broadcaster when I am older. I want to go to camps or do an internship or something but I don't know anything I can do. Any suggestions?

Right now you can write articles on local little-league games, youth soccer, etc from a young person's perspective. Submit them to your local newspaper (maybe your folks can help) and see what they think.

You can also go the YouTube/ MySpace route. Go to the games with a video recorder or even a cellphone with a camera and record parts of the events, then combine them with your own color commentary and present them as 1 minute clips via Youtube. Share with your friends and their folks. Learn to network your talents and interests.

That's a tough one because you are a little young for internships. You certainly can practice into a tape recorder while watching games, but there's plenty of time for that. I'd try to listen and watch as many games as possible, and hear how the announcers call a game. Maybe you can compare it to your own work. How often do they give the score? How do they describe plays? Can you see a play in your mind when they call it? And of course, study the rules and know how the games are played.

Then in a few years, talk to the local radio station to see if you can help them out in some way. Most are happy to have an enthusiastic person around.

Good luck.

Ooer.
Start a school newsletter for the middle school or whatever. Get your friends involved.Ask a teacher if you can hand it out after class or to use the school copy machine. Then, you can go to games from your school team to the major leagues. Good luck. :]
