Keep a little diary of her activities and naps. You may find that she is napping too much during the day (she should never sleep past 3:30-4:00). There may also be a lot of activities surrounding night-time that excite her, such as a parent coming home from work, dinner smells, activities, the tv on loudly, or other changes in the household routine. Some of those activities may be waking her up, instead of putting her to sleep, so that she gets overtired and cranky. For ex., if she hasn't seen Daddy all day and he spends some time putting her to bed, his attention may actually be playtime! You may see a pattern in the diary you keep for a few days. Try changing the bedtime routines a little, like still watching tv but in a darker room, or shortening her last nap of the afternoon. Don't worry, this is just a stage anyway and she'll grow out of it in a few weeks.

You might want to consider putting her on a sleep schedule, where you put her down for a nap every day at the same time for the same length of time (the problem may be she's sleeping too much during the day), Here, this book helped my sister (who has twins) enormously. http://www.amazon.com/Healthy-Sleep-Habits-Happy-Child/dp/0449004023

this is because you are allowing way too many naps in the day.
not everything they say in bvooks are correct, if you want a sleepy baby at night than deprive her sleep at day... same thing with food.. if you want her to sleep the night through.. than make sure she gets all the food in the day!
YOU ARE capable of re training those habits!

Because She got ALL her rest during the day. And she has all the energy to want to play. And once u shut the light off and she/he has alot of energy. So she want's 2 play with u. Make her kind of restless during the day.

stop trying to put her to sleep and let her get herself tired and take it from there, my son started to cry when I tried to put him to bed at like9 or 10 pm so I let him stay up for about a hour and we had tummy time, another story time and giggle time until he yawned and then I knew it was ok to put him to bed. If I remember correctly I think the first time I did this method he slept through the night for the first time!
