The reality about Alonso is that he did have better offers from others, but he WANTED the McLaren drive, and was will to not get the highest salary to achieve his desire. Check out the video link below to see Alonso speak to this matter (about 2:40 in).
Kimmi has been in F1 longer, and having been in McLaren, and then over to Ferrari, obviously one of the other top constructors, and of course, very willing to pay for the best drivers.

I have not heard any numbers in regards to Kimmi's salary being 50 million... but it is the highest in F1 at the moment and more than what Alonso is getting. However, compared to Schumacher, neither are making as much as he was being paid by Ferrari prior to his retirement (and he could still be making close to or even more than them from his on going endoresment deals).
Alonso signed with Mclaren when he was a one time World Champion, and well before he would have received offers from anyone else. The fact that he was aleady commited with Schumacher's possible retirement on the horizon made Kimmi the only available driver of premium value, and therefore, he demanded a higher price.
If Alonso had waited to sign until after his second championship, he certainly would have demanded more money... and likewise, his availability as a bargaining chip would have probably had a negitive impact (not too much though) on Kimmi's final total.

Ok, here's the official stats released by every single sports press world wide regarding the salaries:
Kimi Raikkonen: 40 million Euros for 3 years
Fernando Alonso: Around 30 - 35 million USD for the duration of his McLaren Contract which I believe is also three years.
Michael Schumacer 2006: 60 million USD from Ferrari Alone plus all his endorsements totaling 120 million USD, making him the best paid athlete in the world
Michael Schumacher after F1: 27 million Euros due to endorsements.
People in Formula 1 negotiate the driver's salaries according to their capababilities to pay. Obviously the best teams get the best drivers because they can afford to pay more. That's about it on how they settle the driver's salaries; they make them the best offer they can and hope they won't refuse it. Kimi is getting paid that much because Ferrari can afford it. Today, Ferrari has THE most expensive payroll in F1. Schumi made that amount during his first years in Ferrari (1996 - 1999) but after that he started making about 40 mil, plus anual raises until he ended up earning the estimated 60 - 80 mil.

Forbes magazine most recently estimated retired Schumacher earning $35 million or so, but I think his salary from Ferrari these days is about $6 million. They estimated Kimi at around $35 million.
I think Alonso is only on $20-25 million. I agree that it is ridiculous for a double-WDC to be on half of Kimi's reported wage.
As far as I know, Schu's first deal with Ferrari in '96 was for $25 million per year. Then it rose to $40 million for 2000 and probably peaked out at $45-50 million for his final seasons. I don't think he ever earned a $60 million salary.

Kimi gets paid more because he has more experience and even though Alonso has won a championship, he just doesn't have the experience. I'm not saying that its just how long you've been racing, but that's how it is in this case. Ralph Schumaucher got a $100mil contract for 4 years ($25mil per year) because once Michael proved to be so wickedly awesome, many teams wanted Ralph because they thought that he would be just as good, which hasn't turned out to be the case. That is why there is talk about Toyota dropping Ralph, because this is the last year in his contract. Hope I answered your question!

Ok, I heard a different version based on salaries: I heard that Kimi is earning about 35 million and Fernando is earning about 39 to 40 million per year and he's currently the highest paid driver in the field right now. I don't know what the deal is here, but whatever!

I tell you what. Schumi has the highest pay followed by Kimi then Alonso. Schumi earned most of his money from endorsements.
