My PC has begun exibiting a new problem. It resets as if the power is cut briefly. It´s not windows crashing. I can hear the fans going down in rpm as if I cut the power. Only the power goes on again after maybe a second. This has happened a few times and I haven´t been doing anything in particular while this has happened. The PSU is relatively new. The MB as well. Both MB and CPU temperatures appear normal. I moved recently and decided to clean out the insides of my computer. Removed dust from fans and such. I never had this problem before I moved though. I do have some other stuff on the same power connector but I have less then what I had before I moved. A lamp I have at my desk doesn´t react when the computer cuts down so the power in general doens´t seem to be the problem. What could it be? The computer works just fine when it is working. I recently checked for viruses and regularly update firewall, antivirus and anti spyware.

Darn it... My PSU is new... ish. About a year. But the previous one exploded! And it took out my MB too. This PSU is supposed to be better. My previous cheaper one lasted almost three years. But I´m suspecting the PSU too now. How do I find out? Yank it out and take it to a store?

I have three HDDs on internally and an additional UDB drive on occasionally. I have had this set up for over over 2 years without a problem. Until my PSU exploded that is. At which point I bought a new and nore powerful one.

Your power supply is telling you it time to replace me or you add to many components that wattage of your power supply is not sufficent to keep up. Added USB componets that don't requirer Ac power and generates power directly from your PC is a major source of drainage to your Power supply.

Power supply is going, unless it is a problem with the actual power at your location. A brownout or even minor power glitch from your electicity provider could also be the culprit.

Are you using a UPS? (Uninterruptible Power Supply) You can get a UPS from Walmart for like $40 - and you should be using one anyway (just my opinion, but I have an IT business)

If you get a UPS and still have the same issues then you will have to replace the power supply. Try ebay for a match on the part number. All thats involved in replacing it is unplugging and replugging and unscrewing and rescrewing.

Any break in electrical current and your computer thinks it is turning off. The way you are describing it the curren cuts and comes back on for just a moment but that is just long enough for it to think it is being turned off.
