The packing? the stopping the mail? getting the pets boarded?

Or is that all worth it just to get away??

For me it's been managing to gather the time off work to go in the first place. I get my vacation allotted to me per month and I usually end up having to use it for one thing or another and not really for a vacation. I'm hoping to change that and build it up for the rest of this year so I can take a week off next year. I haven't had a week long vacation in five years. Sad, huh?

Convincing myself it's worth all that. I don't believe I have EVER gone out of town for a week. I've moved, but have not gone away and come back to the same house after a whole week.

I take that back: When I was in college, I believe I went back to stay with my mom over the holidays once. But I lived in the dorm, so it was just not the same. All I did was pack a few things. My roommate did the driving. The dorm management held my mail. No pets were allowed.

When I was very little, we used to go to my aunt's place in upstate New York for a week. But that doesn't count because all the responsibilities fell on my parents. My sister and I were mostly responsible for keeping quiet so we didn't pester Daddy when he was driving.

There was a time when it seemed wherever I would travel I would encumber myself with an overflow of luggage and other seemingly indispensible items that would be very tedious to pack and also to manage while I was underway.

In recent years my lifestyle was drastically simplified, though I will readily admit, not by my own volition. The upside of this, one of many quite surprisingly, was a realization that I could go almost anywhere and wear the clothes on my back and get along quite well.

So this is most likely a combination of experience and natural maturation. Making things simple makes more time for the enjoyment and pleasure of the actual experience. So much else is nothing but a distraction.

With Love, Thoughts, and Prayers,

Michael

Knowing that my wife is waiting for me with baited breath. She is always fishing for compliments. The packing is the hardest part. I never make a list so I always forget something. The next hardest part is wondering what I forgot while I am on my way to where I am going.

The packing and the returning and the having to go through the mail and then having to go back to work....that's the hardest part, returning to everyday life. In other words, returning to reality. LOL

Coming back and having to wash all the laundry, go through all the mail, following up on voice mails/emails for work, etc.

When going on vacation, I usually spend a lot of time on the phone and computer for work reasons, so it doesn't seems like vacation.

Sometimes it's easier not to go!

Hardest part is finding out what you can no longer take on an airplane..mailing it ahead if it's necessary to have it come from home...

and not having your own pillow...

Missing out on P&S.
I'm always afraid people will forget me.
And packing sucks too.
And finding someone to watch the bunny!
Hell, I'd rather just stay home.
:p
