I am not gay but I think the best thing would be to visit him as often as you can even when u dont' need a haircut or shave. Best of luck with your barber.

If he is a good barber, leave it be, they are hard to find and if things didn't work out between the two of you then you would be hosed in the hair department.

seeing that you put this in the gay category...
you should make sure if he's single and gay too before you accidentally make the wrong move and lose a friend or....a barber.
Ask one of his friends or co-workers if he's single but not in a 'i want him" way, just out of curiosity -you can even ask him/her yourself, and then start a conversation with your barber become his/her friend but not too good of friend so it doesnt get wierd when you say you want more than friendship.
if your friends you can ask more personal questions and know if he is right for you
