Does the trucker who drove it to the store count to contributing to your eating salad? What about the people who picked the lettuce? Did inventions play a part ... so, if you were to guess how many people in total helped you get a salad ... how many would you guess?

as technology continues to advance we become more and more interdependant on one another. in the old days one man could pretty much run his own life. he might need to buy a rifle but that was just one person he had to deal with. today we all use (directly and indirectly) so much technology that we need to rely on other people. Could you program this website? Could you make the electricity work that runs our computers? etc. The lesson is that as technology is used more and more in our lives we become more dependant on each other.

Start with all the people that MilesToGo listed. Then add their parents, their parents' parents, and so on. Yeah, you'll end up with many thousands of people.

Myself only. My money paid for the salad. If I didn't pay for it I wouldn't be able to get it and eat it.
