I know notebook computers are not the greatest for gaming but I travel a lot and would like to have portable gaming available.

I have an ASUS Notebook. Excellent gaming set up, and it was under 2,100.00

Buying Alien ware, or Voodoo is a joke as they are over priced.

If you looking for gaming, get either an Alienware or Dell XPS. Because those are a bit pricy, you could go with a Compaq, (HP) Presario V6000. You've got a really good NVidia Graphics chip running in there and a fairly decent processor (AMD Turion 64). What your looking for is graphics chips. A Presario can run for about $599-$700.

You are asking for the impossible.

A good gaming computer will run you at least $800. A Dell XPS will run you $2000-$5000. My Dual- Core Inspiron e1505 cost me $830 on sale, and it's not even for gaming.

If really want to get a sub-par gaming notebook, try customizing one for gaming, but leave off things that aren't needed for gaming, like word processors and other software, maximize your HDD space, get at least 1G Ram, 1.8+ MHz (I have 1.73 MHz Dual Core), wireless a/b/g card if possible, and make sure to get the best possible graphics card: make sure it has a lot of dedicated memory (256+ MB). Try to save money wherever you can, and you may only have to spend $900.

Thats like packing 10lbs of crap into a 3lb bag. It aint happening. I spent $1100 on an HP that will do some gaming, but its not great. Your best bet is ebay for a used one. (AHHHHH! the thought of THAT!)

Try Craigslist or Amazon, or even eBay for used one. Put a wanted ad on Craigslist too, you never know someone might have one.
