what happened to dumbledore's hand?
he died before we could know, unless he said it and i just missed it.
so please, if you know, what happened to his hand when harry said it was all burnt and black and dead looking, tell me. thanks!!

We are never given the exact story, but Dumbledore told Harry that the ring of Salazar Slytherin had a curse on it. When Dumbledore attempted to destroy the piece of Voldemort's soul within the ring, the curse was released, and that is what "killed" his hand.
Dumbledore said that he probably would have died from the curse if Snape hadn't helped him.

There is no exact details on how it happened ut we got the basic thing:
Dumbledore found Marvolo's ring hidden inside the Gaunt House, after Vldemort turned it into a horcrux.
Dumbledore got the ring, but something was upon that ring to make his hand like that, a curse. He said that he would have died from that curse if Snape hadn't helped him.

Dumbledore destroyed Marvolo's ring, which was one of Voldemort's horcruxs. Marvolo Gaunt claimed the ring had belonged to Slytherin, how true that is I don't really know. But we do know that Voldemort took it from his Unlce Morfin and made it into a horcrux, Dumbledore managed to find the ring and destroy it so it could no longer serve as a horcrux. Doing so seriously injured his hand.

When Dumbledore destroyed the ring it curse that would have killed, if Snape hadn't given him a potion that helped survive, even though his hand is kind of dead.

He hurt it when he tried to pick up Marvolos ring. Snape gave him a draught that saved his life but his hand was still badly injured. They never actually give you the spell that was on the ring that hurt his hand.

Dumbeldore was cooking some black angus stew on the stove and the pot of stew flipped over and burned his hand
