I was wondering if I could buy the convertible pesos before my trip to Cuba and if so, where could I purchase some in Toronto?

The easiest way is to change some money at the airport, then you can change more at the resort.

If you are staying outside the tourist area the simplest way to exchange money is at a bank.

as others have posted you can only buy convertible pesos in Cuba. I don't find much difference in buying them at the airport, the resort or a bank. I also don't worry about bringing a few home for the next trip. Remember to buy lots of single peso coins you will need them for tips.

The exchange rate down there sucks too, but the best place to get it exchanged is the airport.
Good Luck!!!
