I hate it, I couldn't carry a tune if anyone helped me with it. now my friend on the other hand sings her heart out and does great....

Neither, but don't enjoy it much, either. I think it encourages people who should stay in their chairs to try to sing. There are waaaaay too many people out there who think they can sing.
