Do you mean has a team ever traded a coach? If that is what you mean by your question.......the answer is YES.

In 1983 the Nets hired Stan Albeck as their coach. Whoops! He was under contract for the San Antonio Spurs.

How was it resolved?

The Nets sent Fred Roberts and 'other considerations' (usually means $$$) to the SA Spurs.

The Spurs sent Coach Albeck and allowed him to be signed by the Nets.

Funny, huh? Trading a coach. Who'd a thunk it?

Here's the latest coach-player trade: Stan Van Gundy to Orlando in exchange for a 2nd round draft pick in 2007 and the right to swap 1st round picks in 2008 or another 2008 2nd round draft pick and cash.
