There is no magic formula to telling if a person is gay or straight. Since gays just like straight people come in all shapes and sizes, its hard to tell who's who. Because being gay or straight is a part of a persons character, and not their physical appearance, the only REAL way is to ask. Other wise you would just be speculating.

Well, the Klingons have developed a tried and true method for finding out, with absolute accuracy. However, that's two hundred years into the future, and if I were to share that information, I would be severely messing with the time/space continuum, and bring a Dalek invasion down on us...

Seriously, is it that important? Why do you have to know? Are you gay too? Or you want to "out" him or hurt him or something?

yes, only if you ask.
there are no tell-tale signs. believe me.

you should not care to find out if someone is gay unless it is of your interest that that person be gay because you are, and have a personal desire to move into that field with them either as friend or partner.

Or else because it is a friend that you wish shared this part of their life with you and become closer even if you are different.

But you should not try to find out whether someone is gay if that person is not aiming at making that aspect of their life public to you.

Why? because if you care for someone, sexual orientation should not matter. Do you ask all your new friends who they prefer to go to bed with before you make them your friend?

Dear Soccer,
Why do you need to know?
What will you do with That information IF he or she is gay?
Will it make a difference to your relationship?
Coming out is a VARY frightening thing for many people. If he or she is ready then let them come out in there own time.
If it's going to make a difference... Ask.
Hugs,
PennyAnn

Ask, make sure they trust you first.
I know if I wasn't out of the closet and somebody I didn't trust asked me if I was gay I'd feel totaly freaked out.

The only way to know is for that person to tell you face to face.
No matter how they act or talk or walk you will never know until they tell you.

And you shouldn't really care if they are or not. Its their personal life not yours. =]

Bring up their past relationships in conversation. If they are "out" they will have no problem saying my ex boyfriend. If you still can't tell ask.
