1) the capacities of two trucks are 3 tons and 4 tons. If the larger truck makes 3 more trips than the smaller, its total haul is 20 more tons than the smaller one. how many trips does each truck make?

2) A is 11 years old and B is 68 years old. In how many years will B be just 4 times as old as A?

3) The perimeter of a rectangle is 256 inches. How long are the sides if the length exceeds the width by 16 inches?

(T+3)*4 - T*3 = 20
4T + 12 - 3T = 20
T + 12 = 20
T = 8
The smaller truck made 8 trips, the larger truck made 11.

2. Let Y be the number of years in the future.

4(11+Y) = 68+Y
44 + 4Y = 68 + Y
3Y = 68 - 44
3Y = 24
Y = 8

In 8 years this will happen.

3. Let L be the length and W be the width of the rectangle

2L + 2W = 256
L = W + 16
Plug the second equation into the first.
2(W + 16) + 2W = 256
