I just put in my water softener and now my water pressure is low. Is this suppose to be like this? If not, how can I increase the pressure?

a water softener will decrease your water volume (gpm) when you installed this water softener you should have installed a bypass pipe with valves in case you have to service this unit try shutting down the unit and open your bypass valve and see if your pressure, volume increases this could be your problem if it is the solution would be to get a larger water softener which produces more volume of water thru the unit

The screen may be plugged like joan said. However when the system was installed next to it there should be a in-line valve with a pressure gage attached to it. Get out the manual for the water softener system and see how much water pressure it can handle. during peak times. If you have city water you would want to adjust this valve when its late at night n less water being used. If you water softener can handle 90 pounds of pressure adjust it to about 80 to 85 and that should fix the problem for you. To see if it does have something to do with the water softener open the bypass levers and see if the pressure changes if it doesn't then the in line valve was turned down too low

Our water softener does not lower the pressure, and we live in the country and have our own well and pump. Check your book, and find out if there is a screen or filter, maybe you got that partially plugged, in the installation. Most of them have a bypass valve, also. Check and make sure it is not partially turned off.
