I, for one, want to top my hat to Souray (and his wife!) for choosing Edmonton as their next home. I understand that Souray is going to make a boatload of cash in this deal, but so were Pronger, Nylander and Vanek before they turned their noses to the Oiler management. Pronger, and his wife, were publicly ridiculing the city for being too cold and inhospitable. This was a classy choice and certainly a strong message to other players. Hopefully more will follow. Edmonton losing out on chances for quality players because of Pronger's weather report seems unjust.
Thought?

I predicted this event last January. Habitant said it would never happen. This is a coup for Edmonton. They have more toughness, puck mobility and a guy with heart. I love this move and have always said it was the right fit for the Oilers. They need more home town boys to play for their city. There are plenty of Edmonton born hockey players out there and a few more need to land in Edmonton when they are drafted.

$5.4M? That's essentially what Montreal paid for Hamrlik. I just don't get what the hell's going on in this league anymore. Either Montreal had no interest in Souray or vice versa, because $150K could not have been a deal breaker between the teo sides.

Anyway, Souray's from Alberta so going back home was probably a selling point for him. Furthermore, the weather had nothing to do with Pronger leaving. Do some poking around and think in terms of Brind'Amour to Carolina for a context.

Lastly, Vanek didn't thumb his nose at anyone. The Oilers made and offer and Buffalo matched. He couldn't go to Edmonton if he wanted to (not that it would be very different from Buffalo anyhow lol).

I was very suprised to find out he signed a 5 year deal with edmonton cause i thought he was either going to new jersey or san jose but he chose edmonton. he says he is very excited and cannot wait to play at rexall place. yeah souray has been divorced for a while now and his ex wife, Angelica Bridges, tried to ruin sheldon's reputation by claiming he assaulted her while souray was becoming an nhl star.

So who they going to slap the C on in Edmonton? Any ideas? And what's this about Sutter getting ready to sign a deal to cach the Devils? Next thing you know you'll be telling me the Conservatives lost a seat to the Liberals in a byelection in Alberta.

Yeah, except for the fact that Souray is in the midst of a nasty divorce and his ex and daughters live in the LA area. LOL.

They never really chose Edmonton. He got screwed because he turned down Montreal's offer. If he would have not gone to Edmonton, I would bet that he would have been unsigned but the start of the season.

That he is moving home doesn't seem overly classy (but not bad either) nor does it send a message to other players. Other than a message that is you may want to move closer to home.

And if he is doing the big divorce thing, he may have been just a tad homesick, or get closer to family.
