Before I tell you how to plant and grow TULSI - I like to mention that - Tulsi is a divine plant according to Hinduism. There are lots of legends and village stories relate how Tulsi came to grow and be worshiped on Earth. The classic Hindu myth, Samudramathana, the "Churning of the Cosmic Ocean," explains that Vishnu spawned Tulsi from the turbulent seas as a vital aid for all mankind. More common are legends that describe how the Goddess Herself came to reside on Earth as Tulsi. Generally, worshipers of Vishnu will envision Tulsi as Lakshmi; devotees of Rama may view Tulsi as Sita; while Krishna bhaktas revere Her as Vrinda, Radha or Rukmani.

The Tulsi is the most sacred. In Hinduism that which is incomparable is called Tulasi. Impressed by her devotion and adherence to righteousness, Tulasi the wife of a celestial being was blessed by Lord Krishna that she would be worshipped by all, offerings would be incomplete without the offering of Tulsi. She also symbolises Goddess Lakshmi.

How to Plant Tulsi ?
Tulsi seed is easy to germinate and grow. Sow the small Tulsi seeds in early spring indoors or in the greenhouse for an early start, or sow Tulsi seed directly in the spring or summer garden. Sow Tulsi seeds just under the surface of the soil and press in firmly. Keep Tulsi seed watered and warm until germination, which occurs within 1 to 2 weeks. Tulsi prefers full sun, rich soil, and plenty of water. Thin or transplant to 1 to 2 feet apart. Tulsi does well in pots or window boxes, and is traditionally grown for good luck near the front door of the house. Tulsi can be planted and grown in small pots in the normal way. You can keep it outsid where little sunlight is availableand watering can be done as you do for other plants. If you do not get seeds of Tulsti you can get a small plant, usually available below the old plant in rainy season, and replant in a pot.

As per our indian custom Tulsi is sacred and cleanliness is the most important aspect. Ladies who are in their periods does not go near the plant. Otherwise it is easy to grow Tulsi.-
