Since you asked for A word, I'll pass over "book of synonyms".

THESAURUS has two meanings, so there may be at least two possibilities.

1. A book of synonyms, often including related and contrasting words and antonyms.

synonym = "synonymicon" (or you might use a 'brand name', e.g., "look it up in your Roget's" just as you might use "Webster's" as a general term for dictionary)

2. A book of selected words or concepts, such as a specialized vocabulary of a particular field, as of medicine or music.

synonym: "lexicon"

Lexicon? But that's more like a dictionary.

By the way, when you use a thesaurus, don't trust the words to be accurate synonyms. They often do not mean exactly the same thing, but just similar things. Double-check their exact meaning with a dictionary.

my definition would be a "book of synonyms" or a "list of synonyms."

checking out dictionary.com's thesaurus for the synonyms of "thesaurus," there is a long list... you could check it out: http://thesaurus.reference.com/browse/thesaurus

my picks would be wordlist, wordbook, dictionary?, or lexicon?

haha, perhaps there's no one synonym for thesaurus. still, i hope one of the words from the "thesaurus link" strikes your fancy :D

In English, we have to make up compound phrases for many things; that's why "thesaurus" was borrowed to refer to what it signifies:

The meaning is: "synonym dictionary".
