Probably water, like a river.
You know since, those lines do look like currents...

It's a bleeding @ symbol. It means that email is bleeding us from interaction with real humans.

It looks evil to me. It kind of looks the the horn which Italians usually wear to ward off evil. (The horn is suppost to be the devils you know what.)
