Ive changed my valve springs, push rods, and rocker arms and still there seems to be a knock after my engine gets warm. I discovered this knock after reving my engine and when turning over a gear a loud knock suddenly began coming from under the valve cover. I just replaced all the above and still get this knock like i said so any help would be immensly apppreciated:)

I have a 94 cavalier 4cyl and have replaced the valve springs and push rods and rocker arms after discovering a knocking coming from that area of the black. It happens after my car warms up and Ive only been only able to think of the valve guides cause only a month ago i redid the head gasket and everything was fine from there...

Dear Knock-Knock-

If the Cavalier is a 1993 to 2002 this sound that you are hearing is not from the valve train.

This is a piston slap from GM's decision to use Cam Ground Pistons in this little 2.2L

This effected the Cavaliers and the S-10 Pickups with that engine, I know because I not only owned one but I work in Chevrolet's Parts Department.

The Pontiac Sunfire with the 2.2L is also effected by this.

The good news is that GM has a Warranty Campaign on that problem. The Pistons and Rings will be replaced under warranty through your local GM Dealer.

One word, though.

You will need to use 15-40 weight oil or 20-50 to protect the engine from here out after the repair is perfromed.

We found that the heavier oils tend to prevent this from re-occuring after the pistons have been replaced.

Though GM does not agree with our findings due to a fuel efficency issue, (which is just another way of saying they are only interested in selling you another car), we nevertheless stand by our findings.

Infact my truck, who now belongs to my brother has well over 200,000 miles and is still running strong, (1996 S-10 2.2L Manual Trans.)

Check with your local Chevrolet Dealership to obtain more information on the Warranty Campaign. Also ask about any additonal campaign information that may pertain to that vehicle, while it is the shop for that issue, the others can be addressed too.

Just remember to keep that oil and filter changed every 3000 miles or 90 days whichever occurs first. On this particular engine it is really important to follow this recommendation.

I also recommend that you use the AC Delco filters on this car. This was one time, Kragens only got the business for the Oil, but the filter always came from GM.

I hope that will help you out!

I am sorry you did not hit apon the right noise on the first attempt. Check with Chevorlet to see what a long engine assembly and gaskets costs. Then decide on what you can afford call auto dismantlers and find a low milage engine from a wrecked car. Your Question is vague year make model and milage hepls as does V-6 2.8 liter or 2.2 liter 4 cyl? I see a new car in your future put in tow bottles of oil treatment and trade it before it blows up.
