Consider the fact that less than 100 years ago the average age to marry was about 16 and the church was a major influence in morally and society frowned on women not being virgins when they married. Hormones have not changed, but our society has. Also, consider the fact there was less contact with the opposite sex and as many people of the opposite sex. And consider there was less sexual education and almost not reference to sex in the media.
One could and often married younger, but the requirement was that the male could support the female.
Birth control and the ability to cure most STDs has also affected our sexual habits and acceptance of sex before marriage. What most youth don't understand that missing a single birth control pill changes the chance of pregnancy from 3% to 46% and missing two pills in a cycle is almost like not being on any birth control.

I've been wondering about that for a long time. I know about 11 girls who are either pregnant or are dealing with a baby. And most of the fathers have run away.

I see what you mean. I am almost 17, and I have respect for my body and I will wait until marriage, but not for religious reasons.
