I installed the latest automatic windows update, rebooted and all of a sudden my laptop has no sound. Any ideas?

It appears as though the drivers for your speakers need to be updated to work with the Windows update. Go to the pc maker's site and upgrade your driver.
Also check and see if the speakers were turned off or down so low you can't hear them.

Probably inadvertantly downloaded a Soundcard driver update that's not compatable with a third party soundcard.
Reinstall your drivers from an install disk or go to the manufacturer's website to get the drivers and install those.
