Automatics are usually not souped up because there is horsepower loss in the torque converter. However, the same engine tuning can be done on an automatic car as a manual car.

Yes. In high powered drag racing classes that require production based transmissions, it's common to see 1000+ hp engines backed by heavily modified Chevy Powerglides or Chrysler A727s. One reason is that normal manual transmissions can't shift quickly enough to keep up with a car that fast. They also are easier to set up to get the car to launch hard without spinning the tires.

However, there are a few things that hold more normal automatic transmission cars back. Automatic transmissions absorb more horsepower, and some light duty automatics would break if you feed too much power through them (then again, the same applies to some light duty manual transmissions!). Still, more horsepower is more horsepower.

yes there are tons of higher end car that have auto look at cadillac they have an STS/V w/467hp and its REALY fast
