If discrimination is a reality it can not be avoided. Humans are a reality too. Therefor the logical conclusion that the two meet in some contradictory manner and in that each individual must objectify and that means also the communication with others to solve this contradiction. The solution is what we have now and not all are able to objectify the same as others. Those who are able to objectify this contradiction are those who are able to face it and become active in such a manner that clearly manages this contradiction. Not all are able to do this. These are the ones who avoid the subject altogether and do not manage any type of solution. And there are those who clumsily manage but do not have enough information to objectify clearly and have problems communicating this with others and discrimination is one of the manifestations of this shortage of information.

Discrimination can be avoided by acknowledging your thoughts and actions on a daily basis. By challenging your attitudes about certain people, places, groups, ethnicities.
Segregation is a more complex issue. People tend to surround themselves with others of like minds, attitudes, social status, etc. Again, to avoid segregation, seek out people unlike yourself and seek to understand that person from their perspective.
Hope this helps.

Each individual must make a commitment to embrace all of the world's peoples as one.
We all need to reach for a higher consciousness that goes beyond our self, our street, our town, our sub-culture...
