Prostitution has existed since cavegirl figured out she could eat, too, if she let caveboy lay on her a few minutes.
Even the most restrictive societies haven't been able to eliminate it. It will NEVER be stopped.
The countrywould be far better served to accept it. Do as Nevada has done. have government supervised brothels. The women are tested weekly and safe. The men get what they want and the government gets revenue from an act they can never hope to stop anyway. That revenue can be used for other problems.
If a woman's body is hers and her choices are a private matter (abortion) why CAN'T she choose to rent her body for mutual pleasure and gain?

A lot of women who would not prostitute themselves if it were illegal , would do so if it were legal . When someone is in the company of the wicked , it is much easier to be wicked than if the same person is in the company of the righteous . A person will usually try to emulate their peers . I believe it should stay illegal . I'm not in favor of harsh punishment or for taking extraordinary measures to enforce it though . The fact that it is illegal is deterrent enough to make a reasonable person pass on the idea . It is illegal for elected officials to take bribes for votes or decisions , but they can make those same decisions for free and it is legal . I also believe this should stay illegal . Beyond that , it's really a moral issue .
I'll post what it says in the instruction manual .
Lev 19:29
29Do not prostitute thy daughter, to cause her to be a whore; lest the land fall to whoredom, and the land become full of wickedness.
(KJV)

Maybe I'm biased because I live in the city of sin (BTW, it's NOT legal here) but I don't understand why it's perfectly legal to give sex away but illegal to sell it. So, from a legal stand-point, as long as the people selling (as well as receiving) are tested regularly for STD's, nobody's making any babies and the businesses are paying their taxes, I don't have a problem with it.
I do, however, know from experience that it lowers the morals of both parties and creates very apathetic and jaded men and women.

It is a crime in almost every state except Nevada I think. But it is so widespread that everyone knows about it and alot do it. My question is why isn't porn illegal for that matter because in essence you are paying someone to have sex on camera. How is that different? There are loopholes and laws that turn full circle against each other allowing the authorities to do whatever they want.

It isn't a crime everywhere. There are some cultures where it is legal, and others where the laws are very loosely applied. The Netherlands and Thailand are two good examples.
In the US, it isn't illegal in some states.
The restrictions in the US are a hangover from puritanical Christianity, and has nothing to do with modern day America - the laws should be repealed.

I think its unfortunate for the prostitutes that it is illegal. The criminalization of prostitution has obviously not eliminated its practice. I think this is a case where the law is victimizing a socially marginalized minority of the populace. Prostitutes risk exposure to AIDS and other STDs because they are not part of a regulated industry industry and they cannot get help because their profession is illegal. Its hypocrisy to say AIDS is "the greatest health crisis of our times" and then adopt laws that encourage its spread.

I do understand what you are saying. I do agree about sleeping with someone and being used for sex.
Those who do want to sell there bodies should just be more private about it and not let it get out.
And as for as the government, from what goes on down here in Louisiana, those are the one who are paying for it. Yet, when the dung hits the fan, they start to panic.
Not sure if it makes any sense, but I say go for it to those who does it. If someone will use you just for sex and no strings attached, they should pay for it.

Its a service industry like any other. Just think of it as contract custumer service. Ask any Democrat, they'll tell you its been around since the begining of time in some form or another.
I guess its the exchange of money that makes it illegal in most states. Since Government can't regulate it or tax it, they'll just ban it.
