Like a ghost or spirit? I sometimes smell nasty/aweful scents for just a couple of seconds. My boyfriend sometimes smells flowery (he says likes roses) scents.

If you only have a bad smell (no other signs) then all you need to do is get a bottle of Febreze . That should fix your problem.
If you have more than one sign then you may want to look in to getting your home blessed (or you could bless it yourself)
(Note: I am not saying that I believe in Ghosts, I just find the subject very interesting)

The spirit realm is a very free place. Things that we can't see - air, spirits, smells etc. - all have a physical manifestation. To answer your question, yes strange smells mean something in the spirit realm is being brought into the physical. It could also be your body reacting just like what the 1st poster said I believe.
If you are not sure visit a doctor, or see your religious leader and ask about the smell.

This is very common with a lot of spirits usually associated with a passed relative sometimes they will do other things if you ignore them, particularily if they have a message for you, a good way to ask for a sign or message is in your dreams if the thought of a spirit around worries you.

I smell strange things, and usually it is when I have a sniffle or cold. Other times, when I'm not sick, I can still smell things for a second or two. I think it's just a mix-up in the nose-brain connection.
