It sounds like a sticking valve and the explosion is the unburnt fuel igniting in the exhaust.try a fast run in 3rd gear it may righten it plenty of revs for half mile.Otherwise its off with the
cylinder head and a set of new valves and springs costly.

88 was the speed you were going which is way to fast for you, the flash was right before your eyes, and the bang well too late buddy but your car is totalled. If you can pick up your cell phone call 911 and have then send out an ambulance fast. OH! and have your DL, registration and insurance ready or else no one will touch you.

You need 1.21 jiggawats going through the flux capacitor when you hit 88 miles per hour, otherwise it's bad for the car.

Is it a DeLorean? If so, to alleviate the problem just disable the 'flux capacitor' - it's the Y-shaped cool light up thingy over the driver's right shoulder.

a flash??? where? I've never seen or heard of a car flashing

also, it's not that big a problem cuz you shoudln't be driving more then 88 on a regular basis anyway

there is something wrong with your speedometer. The bang and flash are you breaking the sped of sound then the speed of light.
