i tried making a home network, but it only displays the laptop and when i try to open it on the desktop, it says: mshome is not accessible you might not have permission to use this network resource. The list of servers for this workgroup is currently unavailable.

I even unblocked the ip address on each computer.

Well, not wanting to buy anything might mean that you cant print using your laptop.

1) you could make a Ad-Hoc network between the laptop and the other computer, but that would require you to have a wireless adapter on both computers.

Also Ad-Hoc networks are very unstable, must be setup manually, IP addresses and subnets, only run at a max. 11Mb/s and have only a 25 to 30 foot range, if there are no walls between the computers.

2) you can make a wireless infrastructure network, but that would also require you to have a wireless adapter on each computer as well as a wireless router. The router would handle all the IP addressing and you could share files and printers, and even share a internet connection.

3) you could make a mixed network, but that would require you to purchase a wireless router and connect the other computer to the router using a ethernet cable and using the wireless on your laptop. This will do the same as option 2.

4) you can purchase a wireless print server and connect it to your printer, but again you would need to have wireless adapters in each computer and purchase a wireless print server.

5) Last, you could purchase a printer that has wireless built in. Connect it to the other computer using the printer cable and connect to the laptop using the built in wireless.

Oh, one more option: You can plug the printer into the laptop.

1. You can have the Printer connected to a print server, config an IP for the printer and the print server and then you will be able to print wirelessly.
2. If the Printer is shared on the other computer and the laptop and the computer are on the same IP range, you will be able to print.
