Political Correctness is hardly a new word, nor a new phenomenon, it's a fact of life in America. We live with it every day, even if many of us are so comfortable with it that we don't notice it. Rather like racial prejudice prior to the civil rights movement of the 50s, or, to go back further, like Victorian taboos on discussing certain topics in even the most metaphorical terms.

Actually, PC is a non-entity. At best, it is a thin camouflage for those who just want to be blatantly insulting.

Honesty doesn't mean a complete gut-spilling, nor does it require that harsh or cruel words be used to convey one's honest thoughts.

Thoughts or opinions need not be expressed in the most offensive way.

We're giving it up! COOL! Forget it! Get rid of it! I agree! If the conservatives are doing it now I warn them:

"It's a dead end and totally against the democratic principles my party fought for. Don't go that way! It doesn't help. It's anti-American. Talk to us. We'll help you cure yourselves of it."

That's assuming we're going back to our roots, right? No socialism, free speech, charity rather than national extortion, less government, free expression, equality, etc.

They think it applies just to them.

They don't realize it also applies to liberals whenever we criticize Bush and his crappy policies or organized religion. Just imagine if Thomas Paine and Thomas Jefferson said what they said against christianity today. They would be figuratively lynched by the religious right in this country.
