Looking into buying an Apple iMAC Core 2 Duo 2.16 GHz laptop - any reviews for me? Would probably get the windows connection for it too...does it work well together?

Have also been looking at the Pink Sony Vaio and the 14inch HP laptop but am unsure as to what to get.....I love the pink one but it is SO overpriced and doesn't have extras like installed webcam etc. The HP looks good too and is quite good in price but I think the mac would be nice to try with the reviews I have heard and seen. I have never used mac form but I am quite computer literate and don't believe I will have any problems picking it up. I love the look of the little mac laptop and it looks like a fun setup but I am scared of the future and if the apple setup becomes outdated and non-compatible with future windows things......tips please?! :)

The iMac is not a laptop. So I guess the answer is No?

If you meant the MacBook, yes, it is a great piece of hardware.

I take care of both Macs and PCs for a living. The old Macs were pretty lousy hardware, but the new Intel Macs are much better computers. We've found the free Bootcamp to be the best way to add Windows to one. You do have to reboot to switch back and forth from Windows to OSX, but you get a much cleaner running Windows machine that way. OSX is a much, much better OS than Windows, and you'll probably like it, but it's good to have Windows on the machine too, so you can run the other 90% of the software in the world.

From a computer geek's point of view Macs are the ultimate blasphemy. If you have a Mac and think you're all trendy at a coffee shop sipping your latte, well be forewarned that there is probably at least one computer enthusiast silently laughing at you.

PCs are meatier: You want performance you get a PC. The Macs don't even compete on performance benchmarks. Apple survives because there are actually people that say, "Oooh cool I can get a pink computer to match my purse!"

More customizable: The hardware market on the pc side is massive. Each component has it's own industry behind it forcing innovation. For Macs you have Apple. Sure they allow for intel chips and nVidia chipsets now but they have to have operate within the Apple architecture.

Easier to fix: how many people do you know that just tear into their Macs when there's a problem? Zero. You have to take it to a certified Mac technician.

Cheaper: See above. Also every system isn't scalable. It's optimized around that hardware being present. And even if Apple is using crap hardware they still charge out the ying yang.

Short answer:
Get a Mac if you want to sit in Starbucks and have your iPod match your iMac, iPhone, and handbag.

Get a PC if you want a better machine for less money. Get an Alienware, Voodoo Computing, or Falcon Northwest computer if you want to impress those aforementioned computer geeks.

iMacs are for iDiots.

I recommend getting the Sony Vaio, or at least the HP. I have a Vaio, and it's not necessarily fancy and colorful, but it comes with a webcam and other things. The Apple iMac's are pretty cool looking for the most part but trust me on this, almost everyone i know that has one, or has bought one in the past, ends up getting another computer, or need a fix. Try going to the stores and checking out everything yourself before you make the big decision.

I had that same 'scared' feeling but I've been very happy with my MacBook. To put your mind at ease a little you can still run some Windows applications on the MAC like .doc files. You can also convert files from the MAC format, like converting music files to MP3 using file converters. Take the plunge - what's life without a little risk.

Both the iMac and MacBooks are great computer. I have a MacBook. It works great with wireless, it runs my formilar mac os x, as well as any windows apps i need. I suggest investing in upgrading the RAM, since its rather slow with the 512 mb it comes with.

No. Mac does not make good computers. Instead, you should get a Toshiba Satellite M65-S9092. I have one, and I love it.
