Can you do this with a laptop?

I want to SET-UP a wireless connection. Not receive one. If you went to the link you will see that it's titled "Set up a wireless connection without a router".

It will work fine. Windows doesn't know or care if it's a desktop or a laptop. I use it a lot to share USB internet connections out my ethernet or wireless ports.

yes. if you have XP you should have a wireless network wizard that will walk you thru setting up your system. Most with internal wireless cards are pretty automatic. If they sense a signal from a wireless router they will be working.

That is why wireless was invented for laptops. Just follow the instructions on the router and you should be fine.
