Yes, this is the correct method. 10 in * (1 ft / 12 in) = 0.8333 ft, and the surface area of a cube is 6*s^2, where s is the edge length. Using s = 0.8333 in, I got a surface area of 4.17. If I used s = 0.833, I actually got 4.16, which is less accurate, so make sure you don't round too much when you do your calculations.

The answer is 50 square feet.
First you need to find the surface area of the cube. A cube is made up of 6 squares (top, bottom, and 4 sides). In this example each square is 10 by 10, so the area of 1 square is 100 in. and since there are 6 squares on the cube it's area = 100 * 6 = 600 in. Now, you just need to divide that number by 12 because there are 12 inches in 1 ft. So, 600/12= 50.

Each side of the cube needs 10*10=100 sq inches.
6 sides, 600 square inches.

Divide by 12*12=144 for square feet.

Equals 4.1666... square feet.

Since a 10 in. cube has six sides each with area 100 square inches. you will need 600 square inches (6 x 100).

That is 4.17 (600 / 144) square feet as you suggested.

You are right. You could also get it by multiplying the area in square inches of one face (100 sq in) by 6 faces = 600 sq. inches and then dividing by 144 sq in per sq ft.
