My lad is always sending me things and whenever I get these they wont open. I have Vista Home Basic (yes I know it's not very good but it came with laptop).
When I click on paperclip it brings a grey box that says , This file does not have a programme associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations Control Panel.

The what - where? I've only got one control panel and have gone through everything in there numerous times and I'm stumped. Please can anyone help?

If it is .pps it would be MS Powerpoint. To associate files, dbl click on my computer, tools, folder options, file types. Make sure that .pps is pointing to Power Point, if its not click browse and go to C:\program files\Office and select powerpoint.exe. Would be the same for any other file type your are trying to associate it with. Of course you have to have MS Powerpoint installed.

Rippanation, as the other answerers here have said, download the Microsoft Powerpoint from their website and install it into your computer (link below.) Now, if you still experience trouble, like the .pps file still won't open and you get an error message, then do this: SAVE the .pps file onto your Desktop. Once the file has been saved onto your Desktop, go there and open the file by clicking on it twice. It should work this time. My .pps attachments only open when I download them onto the harddrive (I usually put it in the Desktop for convenience,) but they won't open while still attached to the email.

To open up a PPS file (its a powerpoint file), you'll need the powerpoint viewer which can be found on the microsoft website. Just do a search for it. Its free.

Or, if you have the cash, just buy the whole powerpoint program so that you can create them too.

Save the attachment on to your desktop, then double click on it. Either it will open with the powerpoint viewer you have installed(you did install it after downloading didn't you?) or a box will open asking what to open it with. Select the PP viewer and tick the box for always open ...... Then OK and it should work in future

I can only assume that you don't have the programme necessary to open it eg if it's a photo you need a photo software package etc. I can't open photo's at work and that's becasue we don't have the software to do so, maybe that's why? You didn't say what it is that you can't open.
