I realize that literature does not have to be fiction to qualify, but is "Autobiography of Malcolm X" truly literature? Or, is it widely considered to be in another genre?

Literature is anything readable from a cereal box or pamphlet to the encyclopedia. The term "genre" speaks specifically to the various types of literature like science fiction, fiction, non-fiction,hsitorical, etc.

literature...yes, literary...I'd say no (but Im sure some would argue), a well respected work, yes
