I doubt if I have a truly accurate idea of the ramifications of Presidential decisions, but it's not hard to imagine that the issues the president deals with have ripple effects in many directions. A fairly clear example: help the kurds in Iraq and make the Turks mad. They are both important to us and helping one is certain to cause trouble for, and with, the other.
Or, for instance, cutting tariffs on South American agricultural products would be a good thing for most everyone but American farmers. So you have their lobby putting you in their sights. And who knows if american lobbys form alliances; "you support our cause and we'll support yours"? I don't know, but it wouldn't surprise me a bit. So every action, perhaps, has some undesirable consequence. It might be a terribly difficult job evaluating pros and cons in the hopes of coming out ahead overall. Though I really mean well toward everyone, elect me president and you might have a disaster. can you do better

don't take offense at my asking "can you do better?" I don't mean it as a challenge or insult. I have a feeling though that this job requires someone with more smarts than average. And I'd appreciate any thoughts on the matter

I had two parents in government.

The politics section is always entertaining as I listen to people argue about the way government should be while totally ignoring the reality of the situation, presenting one side as if it was the only one that existed, exaggerating the other's arguments to make them sound silly, etc.

Our elected leaders don't often respond because such people are like the street corner preachers. They have no idea what they are talking about, see a conspiracy every day, and don't contribute anything to the process (after all, they don't want to be part of the "conspiracy")!

I'm part of the conspiracy. We secretly wish to have a healthy, sane, growing, patriotic America.

Mean, evil conspiracy.

Good to meet a fellow patriot (patriots disagree all the time, but they put their country first).

It seems to me that Dick Cheney has had no problems making presidential decisions. Can't be that tough, I mean he has a pacemaker but no heart. Go figure.

Anyone including a cocker spaniel could do better than Bush.

Maybe, but I sure wouldn't want to try, especially with so much hate among my on people.
