Walmart has cheaper groceries but less variety. Target is little more upscale with the prices to go with it. Walmart's "deli" is pretty gross (those cold cut slicers look like they are never cleaned), Target on the other hand has a very nice deli and great salads and sandwiches.
Checkout at Target is a pain because they don't hire enough cashiers, at Walmart it's hit or miss depending on the time of the day. I find the clothes at Target a few notches below those in target, but Target's furnishings and housewares are definitely better.
My experience with Target is that depending on location Target is generally friendlier, at Walmart sometimes they just throw the stuff at you.

I like Target better because the prices aren't terrible and the clerks who work there are not as cranky as those in Walmart. Walmart also tends to get a little bit messy and out of control. I am not a JB fan, but I am sure that Target has some stuff for you there.

Target. Walmart is insane!!! The Walmart close to me always has 50 million unsupervised kids running around, and there's so much junk all over the place you can never find what you're looking for. Not to mention the people that work there are not very helpful and rude . . .
