You could ask around localy ask some people who they passed with, i personaaly woukd not go with a major school, i passed with a solo instructor, so he knew my capabillities , no risk of a differant instructor because the other could not make it.
Make sure they have the right qualifications ie a green disc next to the tax disc in the window, if they just put you in the driving seat and tell you get on with say thanks but no thanks.
Your first lesson should be half being shown the controls of the car, getting the mirrors sorted t your preference, so dont think you are being conned you won't or should'nt be straight out there giving it large you will be practising changing gears 1st and 2nd then 3rd to show your instructor you know what you are doing i am basing this on my first lesson.
Good luck and have fun

be careful when choosing a driving instructor as some of them are real crooks. the most important thing when learning to drive is clutch control. there are so many things to learn. as for the company you choose it depends on where you live. i could suggest one but he may not cover the area in which you live. bill from bumpers you must also not be lazy and read the highway code learn it back too front. good luck
