Ok ive backed up all y files and it took me ages.
Im trying to format my disk but it wont let me. everytime i press start it says:
"windows cannot forat this drive, quit any disk utilities or other programs that are using this drive, and make sure that no windows is displaying the contents of this drive. then try formatting again"

What should i do?

You cannot format a drive from the format option that is being used by an operating system you are logged into.

You can format a drive by using a full version cd by booting to it on startup. A full tutorial is here http://www.jackiestewart.co.uk/files/installing%20windows%20xp%20and%20formatting.htm

You can't format the drive you're running off of. You'll have to boot off a bootable CD with the needed utilities, like a Windows instal disk to format the hard drive.
