Of course you are going to have some apprehension about this. It's okay. Also, it's a legal thing that a female nurse is in the room while the doctor is performing the examination to ensure professionalism. I know there are a lot of crazy people out there, but don't fret. Your doctor has done so many of these things that it's second nature. They are not looking at you in a sexual way. A good doc usually only takes a very short time to do the exam anyway. Just remember you need these exams done to ensure you are healthy and to make sure everything is alright down there. You just need to deal with it.

I used to wonder why male gynecologists got into the profession, but whatever their reasons, I think after they've been in practice for a few years, they've seen enough to get over that. I have been to several doctors (male & female). The one I finally found that I like and that I trust is a male. He keeps things very professional. He never makes me feel uncomfortable, and he acts unimpressed by the female anatomy....lol. The whole process is uncomfortable. Just try to find a doctor you can live through it with.

It is very east to feel this way. But you have to remember that our vagina and boobs are not the only ones that he sees in a day. He is like your dentist! Your dentist sees teeth all day so when he sees yours its not something special, or anything that he has not seen already 25 times that day! Try a female Dr. i see a female and feel much better, besides how can a male doctor relate to us and our needs and emotions all that other good stuff that makes us the special people that we are.

I've never had a male gynecologist, but I can understand that feeling. The thing is, these man are professionals, and have been doing this for years. They aren't likely going to get aroused by something they see every day, just because they're male. If you think that your doctor is looking at you inappropriately or talking to or touching you inappropriately, get out of there and contact your medical board or the head of the practice.

I'm a medical assistant and I assist Doctors with paps. Believe me, they see that all day long and are so used to it that they're not even looking at it like that. Maybe the doctor you go to IS a pervert as I'm sure there are some out there like that, but for the most part, doctors are just doing their job. I know some patients have said to me that they're embarrassed to see me outside of work but I don't have any idea what they looked like naked anymore as it's just a commonplace everyday thing to see people like that.

Umm. I have never gone to a male OB-GYN cuz i havent needed to go to one, i am only 15. Anyways! I feel the same way (i have had a male doctor for a physical( because he was male i had my mom sit in the room with me, though she hardly ever does cuz i usually have females. Anways. He was looking down my bra, something my female doctor NEVER DID!,he also looked down my pants during my period...that was akward! I feel odd telling a male that i am not sexually active and info about my periods and stuff. It just feels odd, because you usually dont tell your dad, so why should you tell a male doctor! SOOOO i understand COMPLETELY, i dont like male doctors unless its for like physical therapy or something like that, then its okay (as long as its physical therapy above the waist) so yeah, i get it.

In my experience, I've found that men doctors are a lot more gentle than the females in this profession. I have never felt that a doctor was getting off by examining me. I'm not saying that it doesn't happen, but take comfort in the fact that doctors must objectify in order to do their work. They are not looking at you as a potential bed partner, they are just examining the body part that they specialize in.

Its perfectly normal to feel like that. If you feel really uncomfortable or feel like they are being unprofessional just ask for a different doctor next time you go...or switch doctors. Sometimes I dont even like getting EPGS with FEMALE doctors. My body is my personal property and I dont like anyone looking at it but myself and my significant other. You just have to know that it is for your benifit and the doctor is only helping you, also that they look at thousands of vaginas and breasts a year.

Nobody likes male doctors, especially men. Every time I go to get a physical I hope that it's an attractive woman. That would be awsome. It never is, it's always some weird guy with cold hand that breaths through his nose a little too heavily.

That's why I only have a female doctor.

I had a male doctor when I was getting my first physical, and I hated it. I REALLY hated it.

After that I learned to be picky about my doctors. I had to be to understand them (no thick accent) as well as be treated well.

My OB/GYN is great, and I wouldn't switch for the world.
