Thats ridiculous. Web cookies do not launch spyware for one thing. Cookies allow a website to leave a small bit of data to identify your computer when you go back to the website. If there were no cookies, you couldn't 'log in' to a site, and you definatly wouldn't be able to submit questions to yahoo answers ;) The only thing cookies can do when it comes to spyware is let a site that already has spyware on it know that you are susceptable to clicking on stuff you shouldn't be clicking on.

I disagree. Cookies are useful things when we surf the web. Do you always want to be logging in to you Y! Answer account every time you visit the site? That's what would happen if there were no cookies out there.

Cookies are also used to save your recent searches, and information you need all the time in your browser.
If you really want to lose the %90 of the good things that cookies do, sure..
Plus, even if you got rid of cookies, you wouldn't be putting a dent in the number of viruses there are.

Cookies are more "reminders" for your PC.
ie when you click "remember me" or "remember password" etc, the system issues a cookie onto your machine for a set amount of time. It will remember what you asked it to basically.
So in reality they are very handy overall and out weight the Spyware issues.

Well the problem is sometimes cookies are very handy for you. Browsers allow you very granular control of cookie handling. So you can choose the sites that you allow cookies for.

they can store your information for many purposes, like personalising websites you visit.
some people/web developers misuse it, but abuse of this useful feature doesn't make it illegal.
there are firewall which don't allow cookies to store PRIVATE information...
