Generally, BMW diesel engines last a long time. The turbo diesels actually give very good low end acceleration (even beating their petrol engined counterparts), coupled with excellent fuel economy.

As with any petrol engined BMW, good maintenance is key to making the car last. If the previous owner took good care of the car and performed every scheduled maintenance to the book, this car should last quite a while.
