I hear plenty about those bands here (several posts most days). Those bands would have been all over board a few years ago (a little longer in Pantera's case). Plus, why would you want tons of threads about those bands? Have you seen the MCR and Fall Out Boy threads? There is no substance anyway. So all you would really be getting is 50 posts about how hot so and so is and oh my god so and so is engaged. "You're a band wagon fan, no you're a band wagon fan." "Why is everyone so mean?" It's refreshing to talk about bands you like, but with mass popularity comes vaccuous and boring conversation.

I certainly don't root against bands I like, and I wish that more groups I like came up more frequently because it's fun to discuss them, but I definately like the underground being in the underground. I like clubs and bars better than stadiums, and I like the rare good question more than all the fluff.

I have to say, rock's been changing for years. Once upon a time, mothers were afraid to let their daughters listen to a bad boy that wrote revolutionary songs named Elvis Presley. Then the Rolling Stones came and added their own touch to rock and roll. Led Zeppelin fell in the pool and added more touches, then Nirvana and Metallica... Pantera, The Used... sorry to say it, but what I've been telling everyone about this crappy new rock is all to blame on the good bands.

The bands found new toys to play with and changed their sound a bit. Where would Pink Floyd have gone if it wasn't for their slide guitar, synths, and speaker effects? What if the wah-wah peddle just disappeared from history? What would the heavy metal era be if no one ever looked into power chords? Heck, if rock and roll never changed we would probably all be wearing Buddy Holly glasses and singing doo-wop.

I feel terrible about saying this, but rock music's going to keep on changing for better or for worse. Popular culture has always been an effect on music, and with all the "emo" kids now there's going to be emo music. With all the punks there's going to be plenty of pop/rock mixed punk. With the political situation as it is there's going to be bands writing about it.

Rock's a living creature and it's going to evolve. Find a few bands that will never go stale and keep with them. Maybe in a few years the sound we agree with will come back.

If you want an intelligent discussion about 70's bands, Sarah C is usually good to talk to. I'm open for any Pink Floyd discussion (it's an obsession, really... sorry.) I'm sure there's some metal heads that could carry on about the 80's with you somewhere around here.

Congrats on the good musical taste for your age. By the way, I'm fourteen.

Good bands (there are very few left) like Porcupine Tree and Opeth need more reconition
I'm 17 and I love all the classics, none of this MCR, FOB, the Used stuff should even be considered music, it just really really hurts my ears.....
But dude, I ALWAYS talk about Pink Floyd, as long as I'm on this site, someone will always be talking about the Floyd.

Edit:
Ahhhhh I HATE the Used!!!!!!!

i agree with you. Mushroomhead, Pantera, Shadows Fall, In Flames, Iron Maiden, Pink Floyd, etc. are all great bands that people seem to fail to realize. the MCR and the FOB music makes me sick, its rediculous!

Great Point and Question!

not everything is fake..i just dont think you explored that much with your music. step out of your box..

my theory..we all have our box thats enclosed with certain types of music that we grew up with our gained an interest from our friends. if you hear 5 seconds of a song and right away hate it.. your in your box. give some music a chance then you'll know that music hasn't died. ahaha

i like music on how it sounds but what makes music great are the lyrics...

I don't listen to much classic rock but I am a true rock music fan thru and thru. No doubt about it since I was about 13/14.

I'm with you. Grunge/real punk all the way.

I very much agree with you. The music nowadays are starting to get on my nerves. It's just pure crap. I don't listen to much hard rock/metal but I respect like every other music genre.
