When and why did we stop building monuments and memorials for our Presidents?

When people found better things to do with their money - sort of surprising considering the amount of money the Reaganistas have and their inability to part with just a teensy bit of it to build some humongous monument to the President they say they adore so much - maybe putting their money where there mouth is is not a conservative-Republican trait, eh?!

When we stopped having truly great leaders. Seriously, though, I think that the building of monuments and statues has declined worldwide (except for despots like Hussein).

The most recent was dedicated on May 2, 1997 (Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial).

When they started their libraries? I know JFK has a monument in Dallas but that is for obvious reasons.

If we get another Lincoln or Roosevelt, or Washington we'll build another monument.

When we found out they weren't that special. Heck we all pay for their Presisdential Libraries somewhat. That's kinda like a memorial -whether they deserve one or not.

I can only think of four who have been memorialized in a major way, so it was never all that common.

Pretty quickly after we developed photography and video. Now that EVERYONE knows what they REALLY look like, no one wants to keep looking.

Seriously, none of our latest presidents have been real keepers or anything, if you catch my drift.
