Ok - So I have this co-worker - He is SOOOOOOOOO freakin’ lazy it is PATHETIC! He rushes all his work, & screws stuff up ½ the time b/c he is in such a hurry to get it done. He takes an extra 10-15 each day for lunch (b/c he says he is salary), but no one does b/c we abide by the rules. If you ask him to take care of something he says “When I have time” which is just his excuse for saying ‘I don’t want to do it’. When a customer comes in he will acknowledge them, but expects someone else to take care of them b/c that would require him to get off his lazy @$$. Not only is he lazy, he is annoying & he always screws up – and he doesn’t want to admit it. Other times he makes a joke like it is funny. I get so FIRED UP w/ him & he will sit & argue a loosing battle w/ me like a little KID (mind you he is almost 50)!!! I have even told him on several occasions he is freakin’ worthless & a waste of space, but he thinks I am joking. What do I do to spare me & my co-worker’s sanity?!?

And sometimes I feel bad b/c I am so mean to him, but it's because he is just one of those people that has selective hearing & gets UNDER YOUR SKIN!!!

You need to go about it in a professional manner. Schedule a private meeting with your boss/manager and bring the concerns up in a professional way. Note that this is behavior you have noticed for awhile and you not only think it affects the way you work, but it affects the entire staff and therefore is not produtive to the company. This should trigger a meeting with the manager and the annoying co-worker, he will likely receive a write-up or a "verbal warning." Every company has a different policy when it comes to dealing with non-productive workers. And if he screws up stuff like you say he does, then his work will speak louder then anything else you can do. Just bring the matter to the attention of the manager.

Well you should confront him. If you had a serious talk with him and with a serious face he will know for sure you're not joking. But avoid direct criticism. Talk to him calmly and If it doesn't work, let your boss handle him. Tell him he is always lazy and never helps out, or rarely gets his work done. He sounds so annoying! haha.. If i were you I would have kicked his @ss a long time ago.. lol. You seem to hate him a lot. I mean, i understand he is lazy and annoying but maybe there is something els? perhaps you two have incompatible star signs? Anyway, if nothing works with him, just ignore him. You're too smart for a 50 year old with a child brain... Ignoring is the best way :D I've tried it many times and it works ;)

But why should he be so motivated? He's 50, he probably has a low salary, probably never receives overtime pay... I'm always amazed that people in that situation aren't lazy. Why should he be motivated to do anything? He's forced to work for a living to provide a salary.

You and your co-workers need to document this and take it to the supervisor. He/she may not notice, as you're probably picking up the slack. But nobody wants to pay a deadweight who is causing the remainder of the office to suffer low morale. He/she needs the proof however, if firing is to be done.

I don't know how they get away with it. If I were to even think of doing what they do, I would be fired on the spot. Not that I would ever want to be like them. No way. ........humph!! Hold down two jobs and won't do any work on either job! Tsk, tsk, tsk.

Why don't you get yourself promoted to a higher position and fire his lazy #$%^&*(!!

Hey enchanted......
He won't do his work, which causes you to get behind on your own work! How can you ignore someone like that?? And then you're the one who gets called out on the red carpet or called into the boss's office and scolded or "written up." I don't think you've ever had to work with anyone like these people who won't do their work.

Cant you all talk to management. Whos in charge of firing and hiring? If enough emplyees complain then something should be done. Maybe a strike until hes fired?

Report him to Human Resources and give it everything you have to ignore this guy. He's clearly not a team player. I'm sure if enough of you report him, the company will do something about it.

First, take a breath hon. He's an idiot. Ignore him. Ask him to do nothing. Do not correct his work - ever. Don't expect him to do anything. When his boss figures it out (and he/she will), the moron will be gone.

you can't change him so stop trying...just pretend he's not there (because he really isn't)

I had a co-worker like that. Another guy I work with stuck him in the butt with a knife. Needless to say, he was instantly terminated, but he got his point across! (No pun intended).
