If I had legs like Colie, I'd have my pic up.
But, I like to play with these silly avatars too - I like changing my look to suit my mood - and you can do that a lot easier with these than real pics!
And I like that they are semi-animated ;-)
Seems more fun!!!

Some don't want to be known , some don't have a 360 account (or have any intention of getting a 360 account ) ; some like cartoons ; some just don't photograph well.
Some don't care ....so why should we ?
It's the info that's provided by the members , not the pictures. I could care less if the person looks like Brad or Angelina if the info they are passing off is bad. The same goes for the opposite ; they could look like Quasimodo ,but if they are informed and well spoken then they are a valuable asset to the community as a whole . That's what all of this is about .

Privacy and Avatars also allow us to use some creativity that can say more about us as individuals than a snapshot. Avatars can provide a window into someones personality and purpose for participating in Answers.

I have no wish for anyone to know who I am. I could have placed a picture up here, but would it really have been me.
Besides, I made my avatar as close as possible to how I use to look.. way back when

I would guess that there are one of two reasons some people use avatars instead of personal photos. One: Privacy...there are so many "odd" individuals in society anymore that one should be careful as to just how much personal information to "put out there". Two: My personal reason is that I can change my avatars "look" to suit my mood.

i dont want anyone to know what i look like and then some people dont know how to put their picture as their avatar

I see myself all the time. It's actually pretty cool been a cartoon and changing my look every once in a while. Right now I'm a rose cause I'm working on my new look.

Maybe they are afraid somebody will recognize them. Or maybe they just don't know how to post a picture. That was my problem until a friend came to the rescue.

My cat is close enough to the truth for me. I do identify myself to people in the right circumstance.
