My dumb sister got mad at me for nothing and using both her hands she kept hitting my laptop with her hands open on the keyboard. She pounded this thing like it was a tiger attacking her. Now i turn on the computer, get the ACER logo loading screen and then i get the black screen with this: _ thing blinking. Thats how it starts up, the _ blinks 5 times or so and then windows starts booting up. But now that _ keeps on blinking forever and then i get a messege saying Disk error press any key to restart. And then i do and it comes back to that again.

Can it be fixed? Did i loose all my memory?!! Please helpp im furious right now!

First, your sister is an idiot.

Secondly, it kind of depends on how hard she was wacking it.

She may have wrecked the hard drive, or dislodged a video cable, or any number of things.

But your computer is failing the POST (initial test all computers subject themselves too), which isn't good.

Try pushing F8 and go into safe mode...but I doubt that will work.

You may need to take the laptop in for servicing...which costs around $100 an hour, minimum.

Make her pay, or make your parents pay.

EDIT:

After trying F8, you might want to check the access plates on the bottom of the laptop. Open them up, do a visual check for any loose wires or such. Wiggle the memory sticks to make sure they are seated. You should be able to access the hard drive also. Check to make sure the cabling is secure.

If no luck there, and if you have the Windows XP disc, try inserting that on boot up. See what happens.

I doubt you lost your data. I'm sure that is recoverable...depending on where the damage is. If the violence damaged the read/write heads on the hard drive, a data recovery company will be needed to retrieve your information. This is even more costly.

Good luck.

First thing is to check if the laptop bios can still see the drive. Start the computer and keep pressing the Del key. Look to see if the Bios can see the hard. If it cant then your drive is dead. If you can see it, then get the Windows recovery disk that came with your laptop and put the disk in the drive and when the computer starts keep pressing F8. This should allow you to run some diagnostics and hopefully save your system. If all else fails take it to the geek squad and pay like 250 to 300 dollars to replace the hard drive.

That sux! I can totally understand your frustration. Well it definately sounds like a hardware failure of some sort. It is possibly that simply a cable got knocked loose, but it could be a problem with the mobo or the hard drive. For that you will probably need to speak with someone at Acer for support, especially if it is still under warranty. Your data is probably still safe - Acer should have some kind of service, where they will "recover" data for you. Good Luck!

Smacking the computer while the hard drive was running likely crashed the heads into the disk. The hard drive is gone. You might be able to reformat and restore it, but it probably has physical damage and would soon fail again. The drive probably needs to be replaced.
