My computer came with wordperfect which really works. I also like microsoft word, but I agree with you about the mistakes. Microsoft word is better for serious documnet while (i think) word perfect is better for stories and stuff. Good luck! I like to write too!!

I only have Microsoft Word, but if there are newer, cooler software programs, I'm game to try. As for the Grammatical errors, if it's something I intended to put, I usually just click the "Ignore Rule" button. No biggie.
I agree with you about Notepad. It's so dull and boring.

I have learned to use WordPerfect, Word, Notepad, Writepad and Lotus Notes - all have a tendency to have a back door - nothing is really safe and it can be read by anyone if its on a pc. Encryption supposed to help but then you forget the ways after a while and thus itsa hard bargain to drive. Of course Adobe is supposed to be realy really helpful and professional - yet again they all need access and outside help in order to stand up on its own. The best package to buy is thus no package as they are not standalone as security would have them be. Its much better simply using the pc's editor capabilities, at least you know its not being hacked and nosed into.

I use a pen and a notepad ha ha ha...usually the same you do, Microsoft Word. A dictionary helps to correct your own grammatical errors, but reading different books is a good tool too.

I'm a fan of Apple's "Pages" program. (I'm a Mac user). It's fully compatible with Word, but it doesn't have Word's annoying little quirks. (Like that abominable little dancing paperclip!)
I wouldn't shell out the cash for one of the "specialized" writing programs with organizational tools. We've talked some about them in my writer's group. Some have downloaded the free trial software, but we've found no one actually uses them. If you need help getting notes and thoughts organized, a simple three-ring binder or large notebook works wonders.
My whole novel is outlined, with family trees, character sketches etc., in one of the latter, while the work itself is saved in multiple places both in Pages and Word formats... Hope that helps...

I use MS word and almost ever other published author does as well. You can actually change that thing you don't like in MS. Go to tools>options> grammar and spelling. In the G&S there is a "settings" button. you can choose which specific things you want MS to check for or ignore (cliches, fragments, sentence structure, etc!)

i just use word and i learn to ignore all those annoying red lines. although on word on our mac, its really dumb. it wont spell check past the 27th page or so. its such a bother b/c then i have to check spellings on a seperate document. but i mainly use word b/c its either that or notepad, and, like you said, notepad doesnt have any good fonts.

I use word too, but with the grammatical check disabled. Just go to the tools menu, choose options, and in spelling and grammar uncheck the box " check spelling as you type" and other functions that you may have activated.

I use word a lot, but I come up with the same problems that you do. But mostly I just use pen and paper, it's readily available and it won't correct unnecessary grammatical errors.
God Bless!!

You can always eliminate the grammatical check. But why would you? You have to first learn to count before you can do higher math.
Learn the basics before you try to be an individual and break the rules on purpose.
