Broadcast journalism will provide you with the necessary knowledge to survive in the broadcasting industry. You will learn TV and radio production, scriptwriting, news writing, research, etc.

Now if you want to really work as entertainment correspondent, you can also take elective subjects in social science, psychology, creative writing, international affairs or political science to give you basic knowledge on other matters. Elective classes will familiarize you with what's going on.

Yes, broadcast journalism schools give students real life experience and camera time. It's a very competitve field, especially for those who want to be in front of the camera. It's also hyper competitive but less so for those who don't mind working behind the scenes. If you are serious, you should look into schools in NYC. Reason, NYC is the media capital of the world.

It will help you prepare, but it won't be enough. You also have to follow all news relevant to the are you want to go into, read around it a lot, maybe start compiling some files on subject areas you want to cover. And try to get work experience in the field you are aiming for, that'll give you an idea whether it's right for you and make it easier to find a job after college.
